Position Description:
Network Runners is seeking Weather Forecasters to support the 28 OWS, located at Shaw AFB SC, providing continuous weather support for joint forces in the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) as the Lead Meteorology Production Unit, and distributed operations for other Combatant Commands when tasked using strategic-level and indigenous products and databases
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have knowledge and expertise in managing programs related to weather operations of US Air Force and Army operations in a variety of operational environments.
  • Shall have a detailed knowledge of meteorology, understand standard operational weather requirements and processes, and shall assist Government (OWS) personnel in training on, QA of, curriculum development for, and implementing products and tools necessary to the mission.
  • Investigate atmospheric phenomena, including indigenous surface observations, upper air station data, satellite, radar, lightning, analysis and forecast data.
  • Analyze climatic regimes, geography, terrain, weather system characteristics, and centralized weather products to forecast weather conditions for military installations.
  • Provide decision-cycle weather inputs to shape, plan, and execute Air Force, Army, Guard, Reserve and combatant command operations as required.
  • Lead a team of operational personnel providing technical oversight, training, and certification, recommending guidance to weather forecasters.
  • Produce meteorological products for military operation as required, providing time-critical recommendations for the Government to make decisions and to select a course of action under high stress conditions associated with severe weather and emergencies.
  • Capable of experimenting, investigating, measuring, testing, and evaluating raw meteorological data and computer models when developing alphanumeric and graphical prediction products.
  • Perform the Verification Initialization Verification methodology on the meteorological data and computer models to determine if adjustments are needed and apply those adjustments.
 

Minimum Education / Experience / Requirements:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of recent experience as a weather forecaster, shift supervisor, graphics producer, and/or Senior Duty Officer (SDO) supporting DoD operations working with the standard AFWWS (JET and LEADS, or their replacements)
  • A 4-year college degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science plus a minimum of four (4) years of recent experience supporting DoD operations working with the standard AFWWS (JET and LEADS, or their replacements).
  • Must possess a military background and have reached a 7-level or equivalent experience certification in US Air Force Specialty Codes 1W0X1 or 15WX or US Navy Classification Codes 7412 or 1800.
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • In lieu of the military background, Civil Service employees with 8 years’ experience in 1340 or 1341 job classifications are acceptable.
  • Possess excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills
